Air rifle field target shooting is a relatively new addition to the slate of offerings from the BCSA. It involves shooting at life-sized animal shaped targets that have a scoring area called the "hit zone" (HZ). If you hit the HZ and the target falls over you score 1 point! The target is then reset by pulling a string. The size of the HZ can range in size from 3/8" to 1 3/4" at ranges from 10 yards all the way to 55 yards. The ranges are randomly set before each match and it is up to the shooter to determing the proper scope settings before the shot. Shooting is done from any of the 4 shooting positions (standing, sitting, kneeling, or prone) but most shooters choose sitting.

Our shoots are "club style" meaning the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. A weekly prize from one of our local sponsors will be awarded on a competitive raffle basis.

AAFTA rules will be used at all shoots. The BCSA will classify shooters into four categories:

Piston Division is essentially just the shooter and a piston powered air rifle. Range finding is done with the scope and windage/elevation is adjusted accordingly. No artificial supports (i.e. bipods, etc.) are allowed.

PCP Division is essentially just the shooter and a PCP powered air rifle. Range finding is done with the scope and windage/elevation is adjusted accordingly. No artificial supports (i.e. bipods, etc.) are allowed.

Hunter Division follows Piston and PCP closely with the following main differences:

* Scope magnification is limited to 12x

* Range finding can be done with the scope but adjustment of the windage and elevation knobs is prohibited.

Unlimited Division is offered by the BCSA as a "free-for-all". Sandbags, bipods, tripods, or any other traditional shooting accessories "within reason" are allowed. Note that "within reason" is solely defined by the match director and rulings on equipment will be made on a case by case basis.

Any air rifle shooting less than 20ft/lb of energy is allowed. The entry fee of $3.00 is far cheaper than a movie and a lot more fun! If for any reason there will not be a shoot on a particular date a message will be posted on the FT web site, www.hpcutlery.com/ft.html, with as much lead time as possible. Always check the BCSA newsletter, the Press&Sun Bulletin, or this web site for the latest information during the season. If you have any questions, contact match director Mike Sporer at 775-2346 or send an e-mail.
